Does anyone know the year of this Yamaha Motorcycle?

I just got an older 70’s Yamaha enduro 175 Motorcycle. The engine id is CT1 025118. It is Green. Is there a website where I can figure out the correct year?

That’s a 1970 CT1-B,,,
2nd year the 175’s were on the market.

They were excellent bikes.
Almost 40 years later,,,if they’re in decent condition,,,they STILL are excellent bikes.

There’s still quite a few parts available for them,,new & used.

Lots of parts from the 125’s,,,and later 125/175’s will interchange

Just so there wont be any confusion with all the random guessing….

-Actual “CT1″ Model Yamahas were Produced in 1969,1970,1971
1969=CT1
1970=CT1B
1971=CT1C

Only in Yamaha Tech Bulletins will you find any refference to “CT1A”.
The “A” was added in the refference material to clearly Specify the Distinction of being the 1st CT1 and to Not include subsequent year models.
Otherwise,,often times all the bikes were lumped together.
All 175 Enduros are often Casually reffered to as just CT1’s.

NO Official CT1A,,,only a character added for Internal Clarification

1972 & Later Models were No Longer “CT1″.
They Changed the model designation to “CT2″,and subsequently adopted other nomenclature.
1972 was 1st year of Torque Induction on these bikes,,,aka “Reed Valve”

Yamaha did not adopt Model Year Code Designation until 1974.
The Code began with Letter A.
Example:
1974=DT175A
‘75=DT1175B
‘76=DT175C,
and so on.

Several letters were ommited from the alphabetic sequence.
Which helps Add to the confusion.

There is No Year Code designator in the Engine Number of any of the CT1 series.

“B”,and “C” are Sequence designations.
They can IMPLY a “year model”,,,but are NOT Specifically an Official Year Model designation.

Candy Green and
Competition Yellow(VERY seldom seen)

I’m only 99% Certain of the Paint Codes,,
but I ‘bleive >
GREEN = “Candy Green”>”Code CG”> “#0064″
Yellow= ” Competition Yellow”> “Code CPY”>”#0026″

The “10th Letter” Year Code is only relevant to 17 Character VIN’s.
That system was not adopted until a Decade After your bike was produced.

And according to the Engine Number you posted,,
Your bike is a 1970 CT1B.

1969 engine numbers Began at CT1-000101
These were CT1 bikes.

1970 engine numbers Began at CT1-010101
These were CT1B bikes.

1971 engine number Format CHANGED mid-production
Early 1971 “Old Numbers” began CT1-200101
These were CT1C Bikes—and the End of the CT1 Series.

Later 1971 “New Numbers” began CT1-032101
These were the 1st CT2 Bikes.
Tricky being intro’d in ‘71 & carrying CTI-engine # Prefix,,,as CT2’s were “1972 Models”

1972 engine numbers Began at CT1-065101
These were CT2 bikes

1973 engine numbers began at CT1-100101
These were CT3 bikes.
And the end of the “CT- Series”

1974 into’d the “DT- Series”.
The 175’s in 1974 became DT175A
Engine Numbers:
1974>DT175A> #443-000101
1975>DT175B>#443-100101
1976>DT175C>#559-000101
—1976 was the Last of the Twin Shock 175’s

1977—there was NO “DT175″ for 1977.
The IT175 was introduced,,,and was 1st 175 Monoshock

1978>DT175E>#2A7-000101
The DT175 was Back,,,with a Monoshock.

1979>DT175F> #2N5-000101
1980>DT175G> #3J1-000101
1981>DT175H> #3J1-060101

1981 was end of the DT 175 Series

IT175’s ran thru 1983.
They were the last 175cc 2 strokes,,,far as I know

One other distinction,,,maybe not relevant due to age,modifications,etc.

1969,1970 Had NO Turn Signals
Turn Signals 1st appeared on 1971 CT1C’s

Tech Bulletin #253,,,Dated 11/16/70 notes the Change in the Wiring Harnesses to accomodate the Blinkers on “Next Year’s Model ‘71 CT1C”

That sure sounds like a 1970 CT1B to me.
